Next Event: October 28-30th,  2010 It’s that time of year again…. I head to NYC for PhotoPlus Expo, the huge annual photography trade show and conference.

And as I do every year, I will be doing free portfolio reviews for ASMP members on both Friday 10/29/10 and Saturday 10/30/10. The review sessions will be held at the ASMP booth on the show floor:
Booth #959
Jacob Javits Convention Center
11th Ave at 34th St

New York, NY

If all the sessions are booked up but you’d still like to book a free 20 min. session with me, there is another opportunity: If your schedule is flexible, you may get in at the last minute on an ad hoc “waiting list.” Last year I had a no-show appointment. Someone probably got distracted by the new gear at one of the booths and lost track of time ;0).  I’d hate to miss meeting with someone who wasn’t able to get an appointment if I can make it work.

If you’re interested meeting with me, email me your cell phone number  and I’ll let you know if there’s a last-minute opening or if there’s another time we can meet at the convention hall. Also please indicate if you can send and receive text messages as the noise in the hall sometimes makes texting the best communication format.

On April 16th, 2010 I’ll be doing another photography marketing speaking event. But this time, I’m sticking closer to home! I’ll be presenting to a group of women photographers at the Evanston Country Club.

I’ll discuss how to identify your ideal clients, how to reach them most efficiently and other techniques for surviving and thriving while the news media is in upheaval and better-paying assignments are harder to come by.

When: 6 p.m. CDT, Friday, April 16.
Where: Evanston Golf Club
4401 Dempster St.
Skokie, IL 60076
(This is a club with traditions. No denim, please.)
Light buffet will be served.

Thanks to both LiveBooks and ADBASE for their contributions to this event!

Registration and other info is available here. Early-bird pricing is available until April 13th.

This event is organized by Karen Kring for the Women Photojournalists of Chicago and Friends, a new-ish group of women photojournalists, photographers and allies focused on professional development and camaraderie. Male photographers are welcome to join the conversation.

This talk is geared to professional photographers who’ve been in the industry for over 15 years. Understanding how the marketing of images has so radically–and so swiftly– changed, can benefit these photographers the most; those who are concerned that in this economy, they can’t afford to “not know what they don’t know.”  They suspect that things are different when it comes to promoting their work in the digital age. But they’re not sure which strategies they should implement– and which ones they can ignore.

Nothing changes faster than online promotion. What worked
great last year might not be the best tactic this year.

At this event I’ll provide some tips, guidelines and
resources, on how to stay current.
In a recession when work is harder to find and pricing is
dropping daily, you can’t afford to shoot yourself in the
foot with an outmoded promotional strategy.
Buyers have
exponentially greater choices; don’t let them pass you by
because your online strategy is not as good as your
imagery.

Come join in!
